This year, there has been no shortage of Lord of the Rings news, with an animated film starring Andy Serkis scheduled for release in December and a new film in the works. A brand-new trailer for The Rings of Power’s impending second season has just been posted on Prime Video, which is sure to increase the buzz.
It also appears pretty awesome.
The streamer has also revealed the premiere date of their adaptation of Tolkien’s Second Age, which is earlier than anticipated (more on that below).
The show is anticipated to continue examining Sauron’s (Charlie Vickers) ascent to power after filming concluded in October 2022. Vickers’ appearance in the teaser has led us to believe that it will feature a new, more elf-like visage.
Season 1 of the streaming service became “one of the top original series for Prime Video, viewed by more than 100 million people worldwide, and driving more Prime sign-ups worldwide during its launch window than any other previous content to date,” according to a statement. The show is loosely based on the Lord of the Rings books (sort of) and takes place long before the events of the original film trilogy.

When does Rings of Power season 2 come out?
Fans will be happy to hear that Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 won’t air any earlier than autumn 2024, even though that wasn’t our expectation.
It has been announced by Prime Video that it will debut on Thursday, August 29, 2024.
The second season’s production, which started in the UK in October 2022, was rumoured to be moving quickly at Amazon Studios. However, showrunner Patrick McKay conjectured in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that the programme would need a “couple of years” before the upcoming season is ready.
Jennifer Salke, the head of Amazon Studios, stated to Variety at the time: “The production team is currently working on season 2.” As soon as we can, we’re going to spread that around the world. While we want to keep the bar as high as possible, we also aim to minimise the amount of time between seasons. So whatever it takes will be needed.
However, there has been a sense of urgency to move swiftly, which is why these guys have continued to write during their break. We’re going quickly.
What would Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’s season two plot entail?
Prime Video gave a preview of the upcoming season 2 trailer in a press release.
“Cast out by Galadriel, without army or ally, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-earth to his sinister will,” it said.
“Even its most beloved and vulnerable characters into a rising tide of darkness, challenging each to find their place in a world that is increasingly on the brink of calamity,” the statement added, referring to the upcoming season.
The synopsis and director Charlotte Brändström’s recent teases about season 2’s “darker” and “edgier” tone are definitely consistent.
What I know and what I can say with certainty is that it will be darker, edgier, and more character-driven, she stated (via ScreenRant).
“I continue to believe that some really intriguing episodes are on the horizon. Just the clips were what I watched all of them over Christmas. This season is going to be excellent, in my opinion. We attempted to add some grit, or dirtiness, I suppose. Additionally, to make it look as real as possible rather than in the picture. There are also some incredibly unexpected flips and twists in it.
Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’s second season will also feature several ongoing storylines. First of all, Adar and his Orcs in Mordor, along with Sauron, continue to pose a menace.
